PSHE and RSE
The David Ross Education Trust respects every students' entitlement to Relationship Education, Relationship and Sexual Education and Health Education and ensures that it compliments all aspects of the curriculum. As such, we are committed to providing every student attending Thomas Middlecott Academy with a high quality PSHE and RSE education. As an academy, we endeavour to encompass PSHE/RSE into daily student life ensuring that we have a wide approach to preventative education and providing a curriculum that includes such issues as:
- healthy and respectful relationships;
- what respectful behaviour looks like;
- consent;
- stereotyping, equality;
- body confidence and self-esteem;
- prejudiced behaviour;
- that sexual violence and sexual harassment is always wrong; and
- addressing cultures of sexual harassment.
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum reflects diversity in relation to sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity and culture. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development equips them to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in school and the wider community. The ethos of the Academy acknowledges the importance of PSHE/RSE and places great value upon the holistic individual. We believe in the development of a student's self-confidence, self-discipline and awareness of socially acceptable standards.
TMA students receive accurate and factual information about sex, relationships, the law and sexual health, in order to make informed choices. They are taught skills to support healthy and safe relationships as well as an awareness of the different attitudes and views on sex and relationships within society, such as peer norms and those portrayed in the media. We provide opportunities for reflection in order to nurture personal values based on mutual respect and care and ensure our young people are clearly informed of their rights such as how they can access confidential advice and health services within the boundaries of safeguarding.
Our PSHE and RSE sessions are provided within a safe learning environment with known, trusted adults, a RSE professional advisor and LiSH (Lincolnshire Integrated Sexual Health).
At TMA, our Relationship Education, Relationship and Sex Education and Health Education Policy can be viewed. We consider our policy a very much living document and something that we want to be embraced by our whole academy and wider community. We always welcome thoughts and support about how we can continue to evolve our TMA policy for Relationship Education, Relationship and Sex Education and Health Education. Please email nhallrushton@thomasmiddlecott.co.uk if you have any suggestions regarding the policy, the PSHE/RSE support your child receives or if you would like to be part of the PSHE/RSE working party. We want our students, staff, parents/carers and wider community to be involved with PSHE/RSE.

PSHE/RSE Parent Voice 2023
We want to ensure our approach to PSHE/RSE includes the views of all of our partners. We have previously sent an overview letter to our parents/carers and will be sending a Forms quiz to capture your views on the PSHE/RSE programme that your young person is embarking on. Our students will also have the opportunity to add their voice about the PSHE/RSE curriculum, along with the staff at TMA. We look forward to sharing all of our views of PSHE/RSE at TMA with you in the near future.
