Music
At Thomas Middlecott Academy students will be able to explore music through curricular music and extra-curricular music. We have a wide range of extra-curriculum clubs, including: Choir, Taiko Drumming, Samba Band and a lunchtime keyboard club.
Thomas Middlecott Academy Music department work closely with the local hub and private instrumental teachers giving the students the opportunity to participate in one to one and small group tuition. Students can learn to play a brass instrument, a woodwind instrument, a string instrument, a percussion instrument or develop skills in singing.
Opportunities to perform music are available throughout the academic year. Parents, friends, family, and the community can share the performances of pupils by attending one of our events. In the last year students have performed for local primary schools, church groups, town carol services, the academy carol service, and inter-academy competitions.
Music is an integral part of life at Thomas Middlecott Academy with all students having direct access to learn a musical instrument from day one of joining the Academy. In September 2023, MISST (Music In Secondary Schools Trust) and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme were launched at Thomas Middlecott Academy. This program provides that every child who joins the Academy in Year 7 will learn to play a musical instrument. Students will benefit from weekly lessons with their peers and will have access to learn the violin from professional tutors in school classes. This will be added to year on year so that by 2025 there will be three full years of students from 7 to 9 able to participate in this learning opportunity and TMA will have its very own orchestra!!
