Megan wins Taekwondo Gold

Megan Featherstone, a Year 11 student at Thomas Middlecott Academy has won a gold medal in the 2015 International Taekwondo Championships in Switzerland.

Representing Great Britain, Megan beat off tough competition from talented junior players from across the world, walking away with a gold medal and a trophy.

Megan said: “This is my first international medal so it meant so much to me. It was such a great experience to be out there, I was able to learn from my mistakes and it’s something I can continue to work on in my training.”

The Thomas Middlecott student, who is also a Junior Commonwealth medalist, recently met Commonwealth Judo champion Nekoda Davis, as part of the academy's new enrichment programme.

Julia Polley, Principal, said: “We believe it is important to support and nurture the talents of all of our students. We work closely with Megan to balance her school work and her training, finding that healthy balance is key.

“I am very proud of Megan. She is a fantastic example of a student who puts her all into everything she does. I have every confidence this will be the first of many international medals for her.”
